We used hierarchical factor analysis across multiple cognitive tasks
to derive a robust measure of g and found statistically significant
associations between g and damage to a remarkably circumscribed
albeit distributed set of regions in left frontal and right parietal cortex,
as well as white matter association tracts connecting these sectors.
These findings suggest that g reflects the ability to effectively integrate
verbal, visuospatial, working memory, and executive processes via a
circumscribed set of cortical connections.
